In November 2010, Eric opened Sherrell Acupuncture, in Westminster, CO, a Chinese Medicine Practice specializing in Balance Method Acupuncture, an advanced style of Acupuncture. Balance Method Acupuncture is grounded in a firm basis of logic. Eric prefers this method of acupuncture because it works, is testable, and is congruent in nature with his engineering background. It also utilizes some of the oldest philosophies from China and is very effective. Pain disappears within seconds.
Eric spent his childhood in Hawaii and Yorktown, Virginia. Shortly after graduating high school, at Tabb High School in Yorktown, VA, Eric Thru-Hiked the Appalachian Trail (1993 - Trail name: VA Slim) from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. Highlights of hiking the trail include, Rusty's Hardtime Hollow, The Blizzard of '93 (swept from Florida to Canada - largest in over 100 years), Trail Magic, wonderful adventures, and all of the great friends that he met and encountered along the way.
Three months later, Eric proudly joined and served 4 years in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. In the Army, he was assigned to the 82nd Signal Battalion, as a Communications Technician Supervisor. After being Honorably Discharged from the US Army, Eric then went on to finish his undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech (1999), earning a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (Geography & Religion). After graduating, Eric worked as a Network Engineer for a major Telecom Company based here in the United States, working on Computer & Network Information Technology systems. In December 2002, Eric moved to Denver, CO to fulfill a lifelong dream of living in the Colorful State.
During his time in Blacksburg, VA, Eric discovered and began practicing martial arts. He has practiced the martial arts of Ba Gua, Xing Yi, and Tai Chi for the past 13 years. He also practices Dao Yin exercises every day. These are similar to Yoga, and a precursor to Qi Gong, stretching and strengthening practices that are utilized to help the body remain healthy and overcome illness. Eric came to know and love Chinese Medicine through his martial arts and meditational practices.
Eric has a strong belief in the concept of balance. From the beginning of his studies of the fighting arts, he began learning the healing arts. Eric's informal Chinese Medicine training began in 1998 with his first Chinese Internal Martial Arts teacher. For the past 13+ years, continuing to this day, he has learned from many Martial Arts Healers, the healing arts of Qi Gong, Medical Qi Gong, Tui-Na, Tai Chi, Yoga, Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, Moxa, Cupping, Gua-sha, and many other modalities.
In 2007, after 4 years & 3000 hours of formal schooling and 9 years of informal training, he earned a Master's of Science in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College, in Boulder, CO. Eric then successfully passed 5 National Board exams. He holds the distinction of a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine. This is the equivalent of holding both the Diplomate of Acupuncture & the Diplomate of Chinese Herbs. This is the highest honor bestowed by the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine). Eric currently holds the title of Licensed Acupuncturist and can legally practice Acupuncture in both, the State of Colorado & the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is fully insured to practice Acupuncture, by the American Acupuncture Council.
Eric's passion for helping others is deeply engrained in his love for his family and friends. As an Honorable Disabled Veteran himself, Eric is committed to helping current members and Veterans of the United States Military, and their families.
